What does this say about us as an employer?

During my apprenticeship at FRIED-SPED, I was allowed to work in the customs department for 3 months during my first year of training. I quickly realised that the work there was very varied and diverse – 3 years later, at my own request, I was taken on permanently.

I have been in Germany for nine years now. I came to FRIED-SPED because friends of mine worked there and they said "just apply". No sooner said than done. Now I've been at FRIED-SPED for four years and work in the off-premises warehouse.

I wanted to do something new. Through newspapers and friends I ended up at FRIED-SPED. Bull's eye! Loading and unloading lorries, order picking, load safety, etc. Sounds boring? Not at all: Every day is different because here, the things that come in and go out are always different.

I am a professional driver with heart and soul – a childhood dream that I have fulfilled. What appeals to me about the job? Of course there's a lot of responsibility involved, when you have to drive a 28-metre-long overhead crane from Gummersbach to Berlin. But these are the jobs that break every routine, that bring you variety and challenge you even more.

After leaving secondary school, one thing was clear to me: I wanted to learn on the job by doing an apprenticeship in the trades. In 2016, I got the opportunity to do a holiday job at FRIED-SPED. I liked the work and the working atmosphere so much that I applied for an apprenticeship in 2017.

We know that our truck drivers are out on the road. They have to unload or pick up goods, and are under time pressure. . . and then a breakdown, the display flashes "error code xxx". You have to react quickly. Maybe a short drive to the broke down truck. Whether within Germany or even to France. It happens! But it also makes the whole thing an interesting job.

During my apprenticeship at FRIED-SPED, I was allowed to work in the customs department for 3 months during my first year of training. I quickly realised that the work there was very varied and diverse – 3 years later, at my own request, I was taken on permanently. My tasks include handling import containers (e.g. from China or the USA) and exports (e.g. to Switzerland or the UK). I prepare the accompanying documents for customs clearance.
In the customs department, we have introduced a shift model, which gives all of us the opportunity to keep our appointments flexibly: One part of the team works between 06:30 – 15:30 and the other part between 08:00 – 17:00. The schedule is changed weekly. This way, everyone has the opportunity to have a little bit more breathing space in their private lives.

works as a skilled warehouse manager in the transshipment hall in
Ummendorf.
I have been in Germany for nine years now. I came to FRIED-SPED because friends of mine worked there and they said "just apply". No sooner said than done. Now I've been at FRIED-SPED for four years and work in the off-premises warehouse. I use the forklift truck to load and unload the lorries and in particular, to transport the really big parts: Gearboxes, crates etc. weighing between 5 and 6 tonnes. Sometimes there's even a telescope measuring 11 m. And we work in every wind and weather. But don't worry, the trucks have heating.
My passion for vehicles, especially for the forklift truck, started from this: At my last employer, I worked as a warehouse helper. There was a forklift truck in the corner that hardly ever moved. Then I asked if I could drive it. I was allowed to and then decided that I didn't want to work on it, but drive it. I got my forklift licence and that was it. Honestly, it was my dream job.

works as a "warehouse employee"
and safety officer in the Ummendorf transshipment hall.
I wanted to do something new. Through newspapers and friends I ended up at FRIED-SPED. Bull's eye! Loading and unloading lorries, order picking, load safety, etc. Sounds boring? Not at all: Every day is different because here, the things that come in and go out are always different. This is where you have to think, be fully focused and work well. Safety has utmost importance. It was important to me, that everything runs smoothly and safely.
When my team leader asked me to become a safety officer … I had to think about it first. That was another matter. But I found the additional responsibility exciting – so I did it. 20 hours of training – the company gave me time off for that. Now, besides my job, I make sure that nothing falls on anyone's head here … to put it figuratively. The colleagues are really nice. So I wouldn't want anything to happen to anyone. I hope everything stays the way it is and I can keep doing this for a long time.

works as a long-distance lorry driver.
I love the lonely life rolling along on 5 axles, driven of course by 450 hp, which are distributed over 6 cylinders and generate a lot of power… Of course, you also have to want to be alone when you are travelling… around me there is a 3 x 2m living room, bedroom and workplace in one. This is my "comfort zone", which I can set up, equip and retrofit to suit me.
I travel all over Europe and meet a lot of people on the road. Many are really alright. You get to hear stories you won't believe. What more do I want. And FRIED-SPED checks what I need: And that also fits the job.

works as a mechatronics technician for commercial vehicles
in the in-house workshop.
During my apprenticeship, I quickly got to know the work processes thanks to the support of my work colleagues and then of course, I was also allowed to complete tasks on my own. When I finished my apprenticeship in February 2021, it was clear to me that I wanted to continue working as an assistant in this company. In the future, I would very much like to further my education, for example in the field of "safety testing of vehicles". I'm also going to get my lorry driver's licence so that I can carry out test drives etc. Finally, I hope to have many more pleasant years of working here and a good time working with the FRIED-SPED team.

You have to react quickly. Maybe a short drive to the broke down truck. Whether within Germany or even to France. It happens! But it also makes the whole thing an interesting job. And if no error code is displayed and the truck still doesn't run, then you have to look for it and, above all, be quick. The truck brings the money.
Of course, the team also has to be right. We are a team of 12 people in the workshop, all of them top. We sometimes spend our free time together. Whether it's a day out, or a beer after work . . It is a must.
